Rollins College has begun conducting a campus-wide online survey called The Healthy Minds Study. Students were selected randomly to participate in the survey with the goal of assessing the overall state of mental health of Rollins students.
Initially launched in 2007, The Healthy Minds Study aims to study the mental health, service utilization, and related issues among undergraduate and graduate students. According to an email from Health Promotions Coordinator Cristelle Garnier, the study “will be providing Rollins College with valuable information that will improve student life.”
The study assesses a range of mental health issues that Rollins students might face, from depression to drug abuse. The Healthy Minds Study website also puts a special emphasis on “understanding service utilization and help-seeking behavior, including factors such as stigma, knowledge, and the role of peers and other potential gatekeepers.” This information will allow Rollins to understand the scope of the problem, and also whether or not their current health services are providing students with adequate support.
The survey will also provide information on how mental health affects student GPA and retention at Rollins, supporting the case for having adequate mental health programs.
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes and is now open for selected students. Those who complete the survey will also be entered in a sweepstakes for prizes totaling in $2,000.
