Originating from the Bahamas and Cayman Islands these little guys are everywhere around
here! They are an invasive species that showed up on the Florida Keys in the 1880s and have
been migrating north ever since. They are completely harmless to people and love sunbathing
during the day. They can swim, have color vision that lets them see up to ultraviolet light, and
get yellow dots on the sides of their faces when happy.
A common feature in areas with lots of vegetation, these friendly little guys are actually quite
common as pets. They eat lots of fruits and veggies to help keep them and their shells healthy.
They also live as long as 5 years! They are also nocturnal, preferring to venture out at night and
need the humidity of the Florida summer to survive.
Deemed the most common species of honey, these sweet peas are a super important part of
their local ecosystem. These buddy’s live up to 2 months and are considered some of the
highest quality pollinators around. They are also quite friendly and won’t sting unless provoked.
