Photo Gallery: The Critter of the Week: Brown Anole

Brown Anoles are definitely one of the easiest critters to find around campus. Running across sidewalks and up walls all across the Southeastern United States.

While these feisty little guys are invasive, coming from the Bahamas and Cuba through general travel and the pet trade, they have been here for long enough to become an established part of the local ecosystem and are completely harmless to us.

Well known for their speed and agility, they are incredibly friendly and very willing to socialize as long as you don’t startle them. They also primarily live off the many insects around campus and are a great all-natural pest control.

Brown Anoles have been hanging around since they were first spotted in the Keys in the 1880s and continue to grow throughout the Southeastern U.S. They are super cute and completely harmless friendly faces, and I hope this encourages you to say hello next time you see one lounging about.
