One the most amazing trip of my life.
We began by flying from Sydney to Cairns. We began by staying in Cairns for three days, but one out of these three days stood out the most: the day of the Great Barrier Reef. We went on an excursion where we were able to swim, snorkel, and go Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. This was the most unique experience–it was beyond perfect.
After spending a few more days at Cairns, we decided to park our van in Townsville overnight–yes, we were all sleeping in the van we were traveling in! This was the most legit road tripping I had ever done. We had to get accustomed to not being able to shower everyday and to eating peanut butter and jelly for lunch and dinner for a few days.
After stopping in Townsville, we headed to Magnetic Islands, nearly 70 percent of which is National Park. This was the day that we decided to go hiking in our bathing suits and flip flops. After hiking for about an hour and a half, we finally made it to one of the hidden beaches called Horseshoe bay. It was beautiful! We spent a couple of hours there, ran at the beach, and then headed back to Townsville.
The next day we headed to Airlie Beach. On our way there, we stopped at one of the most beautiful and relaxing beaches we had ever seen: Mission Beach. This beach was lonely, bright, and big. We spent a couple hours there and continued to drive to Airlie Beach.
That day, I decided to go to Whitehaven Beach on my own. This was the beach that I had always dreamed of going to, and I didn’t want to let this opportunity pass me by, so I signed myself up on an excursion and it was the second greatest thing I did on this trip! Not even the pictures can describe how beautiful this place was.
After coming back to Airlie Beach, the girls and I headed off to have a nice dinner with wine and celebrated for being at the place of our dreams.
Our next stop was Harvey Bay. This was the worst day for me. To make the story short, within one day: I got pulled over, I got a speeding fine ($220), almost ran out of gas, and popped a tire. I seriously wanted to cry. I couldn’t believe that my day had gone so wrong! Soon after I had to forget about it because I couldn’t let this ruin the trip.
So the next day, we fixed the tire, drove around the town, and drove to Byron Bay. Byron Bay was a beachside town in which we spend a couple of days and just relaxed. There wasn’t much to do there, but walking around the beach, the boutiques and the main streets was just enough.
After a few days there, we drove to the Gold Coast. Here, we went to the zoo, and we were able to hold a Koala for the first time! It was amazing; who would’ve thought that they were as cuddly as they looked?
Lastly, we finished our trip in Brisbane. This was our last day. It was a beautiful city, but it looked a lot like Sydney so we didn’t spend that much time there.
Although it was sad that our trip had ended, we were all ready for having long showers, eating good food, and sleeping in regular beds.
Nonetheless, this was the most AMAZING trip of my life!
