As I reflect on my past four years at The Sandspur, I cannot believe that it is now my turn to write a farewell letter. I still remember when the former Head Designer Lya Dominguez approached me to take over her role. I was a clueless freshman and I barely knew how to use InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator. Nevertheless, I was inspired by the passion and commitment that The Sandspur staff displayed from my very first day, so I knew that I had to step up to the challenge.
Whether frantically putting together weekly print issues, overseeing my team, redesigning the website, or chasing people down for photos, my role at The Sandspur challenged me in many different facets. The memories I have shared with The Sandspur will always stay close to my heart, and I feel fortunate to have been part of such a fantastic organization.
It has been an honor to collaborate with some of the most talented editors, photographers, and illustrators that I have ever worked with, and nothing makes me happier than to see our growth throughout the years. Every year, I am surprised by the artistry, passion, and talent that everybody brings to create our newspaper.
As I bid farewell, I will be leaving my role in the good hands of Ella Niren. Ella has been part of The Sandspur’s design team since last year, and I have been continuously impressed by her efficiency and willingness to take on new challenges. I cannot wait to see what Ella has in store for The Sandspur, and I am confident that she will make an excellent Head Designer.
Sincerely,
Francisco Wang
